The 4th Annual Seed to Roots Youth Arts Performance and Art Show Returns to Frederick with Support from Ausherman Family Foundation

FREDERICK, MD, November 1, 2023 — Get ready to mark your calendars for the highly anticipated 2024 Seed to Roots Youth Arts Performance and Art Show, now in its 4th year! This vibrant showcase of Frederick City and County student artists, grades K-12, promises an unforgettable evening of dance, music, art, and poetry, all in celebration of Black artists, Black History, and culture. The event is scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2024, at 6:00 PM at the historic Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick. Tickets will be available for purchase online at WeinbergCenter.org starting in December, priced at $10 per person, with free admission for children under 10.

Seed to Roots is more than just a performance; it’s a platform that allows local youth to share their artistic talents, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for their artistry. This event has evolved over the years, adapting to challenges such as the pandemic by incorporating technology and innovative ideas into the performing arts. Last year, ticket sales from the live audience performance raised an impressive $1,200 in dance class scholarship donations for 24/7 Dance Studio in Frederick, MD. The 2023 show’s ticket sales also successfully raised $4,250, which is completely dedicated to funding summer camp scholarships for deserving students.

In 2023, the planning committee received double the number of applications from young artists eager to participate. This year, they aim even higher, hoping to raise substantial funds to support various arts scholarship programs across Frederick. Tricia Kennedy, Tarolyn Mckinney, Andrea Thompson, Kia Tisdale, and Desiree Tucker, members of the planning committee, are thrilled to provide this unique opportunity for the fourth year in a row. Seed to Roots opens doors for aspiring student artists, especially those who may lack access to formal artistic training.

Desiree Tucker, a representative of the planning committee, stated, “Seed to Roots is more than an event; it’s a celebration of the richness of Black History and Culture through the arts. We’re thrilled to be in our fourth year and continue to provide a platform for our talented youth. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity in our community.”

Thanks to a generous $5,000 IDEA grant from the Ausherman Family Foundation, the 2024 Seed to Roots Youth Arts Performance and Art Show will continue to expand its impact on the community. This grant will enable even more students to participate and shine on stage.

Applications for the 2024 Seed to Roots Youth Arts Performance and Art Show are now open and will be accepted until December 8, 2023. This is an excellent opportunity for young artists to showcase their talents and celebrate Black History and Culture.
